OTOMI started from
H O M E.
Nurtured in the artistic atmosphere of SE Portland, we hosted ceramic workshops from home with the intention of bringing strangers together and creating beautiful art.
With a natural affinity for exploration, and after spending time experiencing the cafés, ceramic studios, and local neighborhoods throughout Japan, Mexico, and Vietnam, we found ourselves inspired by the practices of how communities created spaces that encouraged people to slow down, connect, and create purposefully. Saira and Steven wanted to bring that feeling home to Portland.
Our vision is to create more than just a café. Whether we are your neighborhood spot for your coffee routine, your gathering place to toast the celebrations in your life, or the place to create art and share experiences, OTOMI seeks to be the realm for creating moments.
We're excited to become part of the Portland community and can't wait to welcome you through our doors.

Hi, we're Saira and Steven ●
“I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and grew up deeply connected to my Japanese and Mexican heritage. From attending the Japanese Magnet Program to earning my bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business, I’ve always been drawn to learning about culture, community, and the ways people connect.
My ceramics journey began in 2024 when Steven and I enrolled in an eight-week pottery course together. What started as a new hobby quickly became something much bigger. I fell in love with the process of creating with my hands and the joy of turning a simple piece of clay into something meaningful.
I believe there’s something special about slowing down, making something with your own hands, and sharing that experience with others. My hope is to create a welcoming space where everyone—whether they’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or taking their first pottery class—feels encouraged to explore their creativity, connect with others, and leave with something they’re proud to have made
”
“I’m originally from St Louis, Missouri. I am endlessly in awe of Portland and the warmth and curiosity of everyone here. I’m a first generation American with a Vietnamese and Black background. Some of you may relate to my experience of family prioritizing an education before fun and art. Saira has profoundly nurtured a neglected part of me. My dream has always been to create a space where everyone has the capacity to be themselves ”
